KidsWalk is creating Safer Routes to School by

  • Organizing walking routes to help children, supervised by parents, have safe, fun trips to schools;
  • Enabling parents, school administrators, and others to initiate safety improvements by reporting pedestrian hazards online;
  • Conducting "walkability audits" that inform transportation engineers and elected officials about needed improvements;
  • Providing guidance and promotional materials for schools organizing International Walk to School Day events;
  • Facilitating increased enforcement of speed limits and crosswalk laws among participating schools;
  • Enlisting parents and other trusted adults to walk with kids as they journey to school;
  • Providing fun incentives, such as water bottles and pedometers for kids who walk to participating schools.
